NEW DELHI, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- India's wholesale price index (WPI) rose to 11.39 percent in September, according to data released by the federal Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday.

"All India WPI inflation for September 2026 is 11.39 percent on year-on-year (YoY) basis, compared to 9.92 percent in August 2026," reads a statement issued by the ministry.

According to the ministry, YoY inflation rates for major groups, namely, primary articles, fuel and power, and manufactured products are 8.67 percent, 25.85 percent, and 9.76 percent, respectively, in September, compared to 7.76 percent, 22.93 percent, and 8.37 percent, respectively, in August 2026.

WPI inflation, an indicator of prices in the wholesale market, rises or falls mainly due to a steep increase or decrease in commodity prices globally.

The food index observed a YoY inflation of 8.66 percent in September, compared to 7.05 percent in August 2026, the ministry said. ■
