PHNOM PENH, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia saw a sharp increase in road casualties during this year's Pchum Ben festival, with fatalities more than doubling compared to the same period last year.
Interior Minister Sar Sokha shared on his official social media platforms on Tuesday that the Southeast Asian nation recorded 34 road accidents during the three-day holiday from Oct. 10 to 12, up from 20 cases last year.
He noted that the surge in road crashes led to a significant spike in casualties, resulting in 26 fatalities and 101 injuries, compared to 10 deaths and 30 injuries during the same period last year.
Pchum Ben, or Ancestor's Day, is Cambodia's second-largest holiday after the traditional New Year. ■
