KATHMANDU, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Massive flood in the Budhi Gandaki River basin on Sunday has affected at least four hydropower projects in central Nepal's Gorkha district, the Independent Power Producers' Association, Nepal (IPPAN) said.

According to a preliminary assessment shared by IPPAN, an association of private-sector power developers in Nepal, four hydropower projects along the Budhi Gandaki River and its streams have been affected.

The Budhi Gandaki Hydropower Project suffered damage to its main camp, which was swept away by the floodwaters, IPPAN said. Some construction equipment was also washed away.

Similarly, the Dobhan Khola Hydropower Project sustained damage to some houses in its camp area, while a Bailey bridge used for construction work at the project site was swept away, the association said.

A Bailey bridge supporting construction work at the Yaru Khola Hydropower Project was also damaged, while construction materials and equipment were washed away.

The Machha Khola Hydropower Project sustained damage to its access road and the bridge connecting the project site, according to the assessment.

Nepal has witnessed multiple floods caused by landslides over the past month following the devastating floods of Aug. 26. The disaster has claimed 1,455 lives, while 5,285 people remain missing, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority. ■
