HANOI, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Fireworks lit up the sky over Hanoi on Saturday night as the Vietnamese capital celebrated the 72nd anniversary of Capital Liberation Day, state media outlet Vietnam Television (VTV) reported.

The 15-minute shows were held at three locations: Hoan Kiem Lake in Hoan Kiem ward, West Lake in Tay Ho ward and Van Quan Lake in Ha Dong ward, attracting large crowds.

Hanoi marks Oct. 10 each year to commemorate the entry of Vietnamese forces into the capital in 1954, following the victory of the resistance war against French colonial rule, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

To mark the anniversary of Capital Liberation Day, the city on Friday announced the groundbreaking for 18 major projects, including the 299-hectare Ba Vi Safari Park in Ba Vi commune, and a 125-hectare horse-racing and entertainment complex in Soc Son commune. ■
