PHNOM PENH, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia and Vietnam have vowed to boost their annual two-way trade volume to 20 billion U.S. dollars in the coming years, according to a press release from Cambodia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Saturday.
The announcement followed the conclusion of a two-day official visit to Cambodia by Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung.
During his time in Phnom Penh, Hung held a bilateral meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.
The two leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation across several key sectors, including culture, tourism, energy, agriculture, agro-processing, information and communications technology, and the digital economy, to enhance regional economic complementarity and shared prosperity.
To boost logistics and cross-border connectivity, both sides agreed to accelerate the integration of the Meun Chey-Tan Nam International Border Checkpoint into existing transit and land transport agreements, it said, adding that they also pledged to expedite the connection point between the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway and the Ho Chi Minh City-Moc Bai Expressway.
The two prime ministers also witnessed the signing of multiple documents covering education, trade, defense, and security, according to the press release.
The push for deeper economic integration comes amid steady trade growth. According to data from Cambodia's Ministry of Commerce, Cambodia-Vietnam trade volume reached 6.58 billion dollars in the first nine months of 2026, marking an 8.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year. ■
