COLOMBO, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's cabinet has approved several education reform proposals, including a revised national curriculum framework and a student assessment framework, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya said Friday.
Speaking at a meeting with the Ministry of Education's Voluntary Advisory Council in parliament, Amarasuriya also noted that authorities were developing a unified admissions system allowing advanced level graduates to apply to universities, national colleges of education and vocational institutions through a single platform.
The government has also granted policy-level approval for a 96 billion Sri Lankan rupee (about 29.04 million U.S. dollars) project to develop digital education over five years. A separate digitization policy, endorsed by the National Education Commission, is awaiting cabinet consideration.
Officials said guidelines on students' online safety and digital well-being had been prepared for five grade groups, with a pilot scheduled for November and implementation planned for early 2027. ■
