VIENTIANE, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Laos' Ministry of Technology and Communications has outlined strategic priorities for developing the Lao postal sector from 2026 to 2030, focusing on regional connectivity, digital infrastructure, and improved access to services in rural and remote areas.

In his statement marking World Post Day, Lao Minister of Technology and Communications Santisouk Simmalavong highlighted the importance of postal services as essential infrastructure supporting communication, commerce, and e-commerce, according to the ministry's report on Friday.

The ministry has identified three key priorities for the Lao postal sector. These include positioning Laos as a regional postal connectivity hub by leveraging railways, economic corridors, and dry ports; developing digital infrastructure, such as a national digital addressing system, databases, parcel tracking, customs data exchange, and smart delivery systems; and expanding convenient, safe, and quality postal services to rural and remote communities.

Santisouk called for continued cooperation to improve postal services, create new opportunities for the public and businesses, and support the country's socio-economic development. ■
