ISLAMABAD, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's fish and seafood exports rose 74.4 percent year on year to 125.4 million U.S. dollars in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27, according to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs.

Export volumes saw a parallel jump of 74.8 percent, reaching 61,679 metric tons compared to 35,294 metric tons during the same period last year.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry attributed the growth to the sector's expanding economic potential, noting that the government is working to strengthen Pakistan's blue economy.

"Recent initiatives to resume shrimp exports to the United States, along with the revival of the fishing licensing regime in Pakistan's exclusive economic zone, would help promote the sustainable utilization of Pakistan's marine fisheries resources," Chaudhry said. ■
