VIENTIANE, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Laos' economy grew by 4.8 percent in the first nine months of 2026, up from 4.6 percent during the same period last year, despite regional and global economic uncertainty.
According to Lao People's Army News on Monday, growth was driven mainly by the processing industry, private-sector investment, and the electricity sector. Wholesale and retail trade, public services, tourism, and accommodation and food services also recorded growth.
However, the agricultural sector continues to face challenges as fuel price volatility has increased production and transportation costs and slowed some agricultural activities. The sector has also been affected by African swine fever and natural disasters.
The economy is projected to grow by 5.1 percent by the end of 2026. ■
