BANGKOK, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Monday ordered all state agencies to work at full capacity in the final week before Bangkok hosts the 2026 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), a government spokesperson said.
The meetings are scheduled for Oct. 12-18 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.
The prime minister said hosting must go beyond running the event smoothly. Thailand should use it to build confidence, expand economic and investment opportunities, and generate income for businesses and the service sector.
These meetings are an important opportunity for the Southeast Asian nation to showcase its hospitality to dignitaries and delegates from around the world, he said, adding that the country must ensure that visitors see its potential and readiness on every front.
Key events include the opening of the Thailand Pavilion on Oct. 12, a dinner hosted by the prime minister at Government House on Oct. 14, and the plenary session on Oct. 16.
Thailand will also host high-level events under the theme "Thailand's New Horizons: Empowering People, Building Resilience," covering digital and AI transition, the role of mid-sized countries in a multipolar world, climate adaptation, and an aging society. ■
