ISLAMABAD, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- A security guard was killed after an under-construction bridge structure of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project collapsed in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi, rescue officials said on Thursday.
The incident occurred in the Gulshan-i-Iqbal area on Thursday, where the victim was on security duty when the structure gave way, a spokesperson for Rescue 1122 said.
Rescue teams were dispatched to the site immediately after the Central Command and Control Center received reports of the collapse, the spokesperson said.
The collapse occurred as construction work on the BRT Red Line project continued, said the official, adding that the cause of the incident is not known yet.
The approximately 27-km Red Line corridor, announced in 2017, will connect the Malir Halt area with the Numaish area via University Road of Karachi. ■
