KABUL, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Afghan counter-narcotics personnel have incinerated 3.05 million stimulant tablets and 9.5 tons of various narcotic substances in western Nimroz province, the Ministry of Interior Affairs announced in a statement on Thursday.
The seized contraband was recovered during a series of operations conducted across the province over the past several months, according to the ministry.
On Wednesday, Afghan forces also destroyed more than three tons of illegal drugs, including opium and hashish, in northern Takhar province.
The Afghan government has imposed a comprehensive ban on poppy cultivation, drug production and trafficking, reaffirming its commitment to eradicating the narcotics trade and transforming the war-ravaged country. ■
