MANILA, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- An eight-year-old boy drowned in a lake in Pangasinan province, northern Philippines, after rescuing his younger brother on Wednesday, according to local media on Thursday.
Local police said the brothers decided to swim in the lake after school. Then the younger brother struggled in the water. The older boy rushed to his brother but drowned in the rescue attempt.
Around 4 p.m. Wednesday, their parents recovered the boy from the water and tried to revive him. However, he was declared dead on arrival. ■
