KABUL, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have rescued a kidnapped child and arrested two suspected kidnappers in the northern Badakhshan province, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a statement on Wednesday.
The operation was carried out on the outskirts of Police District 1 in Faizabad, the provincial capital. Acting on intelligence that identified the suspects' location, security personnel launched a targeted raid and successfully freed the child without incident, according to the statement.
In Afghanistan, still grappling with the aftermath of prolonged conflict and persistent economic hardship, criminal networks frequently resort to kidnappings, preying on members of relatively affluent families to extract substantial ransoms. ■
