SYDNEY, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Five people have been arrested after a man was shot in Western Australia (WA) in the early hours of Wednesday morning, triggering a major police response.
The police force in WA said that emergency services were called to a firearm incident near the city of Geraldton, 370 km north of Perth, around 12:50 a.m. local time on Wednesday and arrived to find a 32-year-old man with a gunshot wound.
He was taken to the hospital with serious non-life-threatening injuries while police issued a public safety warning and commenced a search of the local area.
Police said that significant resources, including officers from the tactical response group, were deployed and five people were arrested in Geraldton's eastern suburbs around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
A police spokesperson said earlier that local residents should remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. ■
