TOKYO, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Tuesday as profit-taking following Monday's dividend-driven buying and inflation concerns sparked by rising crude oil prices weighed on sentiment.

The benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, ended down 396.35 points, or 0.60 percent, from Monday at 65,481.27.

The broader Topix index, meanwhile, fell 70.87 points, or 1.72 percent, to finish at 4,041.13.

On the top-tier Prime Market, securities house, oil and coal product, and iron and steel issues were notable decliners.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures stayed above 90 U.S. dollars per barrel, fueling inflation concerns and putting pressure on the market, analysts said.

Most sectors ended lower, also weighed down by profit-taking after Monday's final trading day for investors to qualify for interim dividends. ■
