MANILA, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Overall vehicle sales declined in the Philippines in August, but the electric vehicle (EV) share increased, according to local media reports on Monday.
A total of 29,611 vehicle units were sold in the country in August, down 20.7 percent from 37,319 in July and 18.1 percent year on year, according to a joint report by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. and Truck Manufacturers Association.
The majority, 77.09 percent of sales, for the month were commercial vehicles such as trucks and buses, while the remaining 22.91 percent were passenger car sales.
About EVs, 7,066 units were sold in the period, equivalent to 23.86 percent of the total sales for the month. The figure is higher than the 18.99 percent market share in July, when 7,089 units were sold. ■
