VIENTIANE, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government is stepping up efforts to strengthen the e-commerce sector and accelerate digital economic growth.
According to Lao Economic Daily on Monday, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce held a meeting on Sept. 25 to review the draft Master Plan for E-Commerce Management and Development in Laos (2026-2035), bringing together representatives from the public and private sectors to provide feedback on the plan.
E-commerce has expanded rapidly in Laos, with online shopping, digital platforms, banking services, and e-wallets becoming increasingly integrated into daily life and business operations.
To address emerging challenges and promote a more professional, transparent, and inclusive e-commerce sector, relevant government agencies have worked together to develop the 2026-2035 master plan.
The plan sets out a framework covering development strategies, action plans, regulatory mechanisms, and measures to strengthen the sector. The plan also emphasizes investment in digital infrastructure, logistics, and technology, including 4G and 5G networks, postal and transport services, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.
Consumer protection is another priority, with proposed mechanisms for handling online complaints and resolving disputes.
The government expects the master plan to provide a coordinated framework for developing e-commerce and strengthening its contribution to the country's broader digital and economic development. ■
