SINGAPORE, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's manufacturing output rose 15.4 percent year on year in August, driven by broad-based growth across most clusters, official data showed on Monday.
On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, manufacturing output fell 0.5 percent in August, the Singapore Economic Development Board said in a statement.
All clusters except chemicals recorded year-on-year growth in August.
Precision engineering output jumped 33.9 percent, mainly driven by higher production of semiconductor equipment in the machinery and systems segment.
Electronics output increased 28.5 percent, supported by strong production of servers and related products, semiconductors and data storage products amid robust demand related to artificial intelligence.
Transport engineering grew 9.5 percent, led by the land and aerospace segments.
General manufacturing industries expanded 1.5 percent, supported by higher production of beverage products, commercial printing, and metal doors and windows.
Biomedical manufacturing output edged up 0.4 percent, with the medical technology segment recording higher production of medical devices amid stronger export demand.
Chemicals were the only cluster to record a decline, with output falling 12.7 percent, weighed down by the petroleum and petrochemicals segments. ■
