JAKARTA, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed and four others were injured after a flash flood struck Solok district in Indonesia's West Sumatra province, local authorities said Tuesday.
The flood hit around 8 p.m. Monday, carrying sand, rocks and mud that blocked the main road linking Padang and Solok and disrupted traffic, West Sumatra police chief Djati Wiyoto Abadhy said.
The agency also said 11 government offices, 21 cars and seven motorcycles were affected by the flood.
About 300 additional police personnel were deployed to assist evacuation, search and clean-up operations, while the military, the search and rescue agency and local disaster management authorities also joined the response.
The meteorological agency BMKG said heavy rain triggered the flood. Authorities continued clearing debris and assessing damage in the affected areas. ■
