KABUL, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- At least one commuter was killed and 11 others sustained injuries in a highway accident in northern Afghanistan's Balkh province on Saturday, the provincial police office said in a statement.
The crash occurred on the outskirts of Balkh along the highway connecting the capital, Kabul, to the country's northern provinces, when two speeding vehicles collided head-on. One person died on the spot, while 11 others sustained injuries, according to the statement.
All those injured have been transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Investigators' preliminary findings point to reckless driving as the main cause of the collision, though the police said a full investigation remains underway. ■
