ISLAMABAD, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- A wanted militant was killed during a police encounter in Karak district of Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police said Thursday.
The militant was allegedly directly involved in an attack on a police patrol in Karak on Sept. 9, in which a police official was killed and another was injured, according to local police.
Acting on information about the presence of the wanted militant in the Sarabi mountain range, police teams conducted an operation.
The militant opened fire on the police during the operation, prompting retaliatory fire in which he was killed, police said. ■
