SYDNEY, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- A teenager from the Australian state of Queensland has been arrested and charged for allegedly posting extremist content advocating violence on social media.
Authorities said on Friday that the 18-year-old boy was arrested by the Queensland Joint Counter Terrorism Team in May.
The Queensland Police Service, Australian Federal Police and Australian Security Intelligence Organization said the 18-year-old was the alleged operator of social media channels that shared extremist content and statements supporting violence against people of Jewish, Islamic and migrant backgrounds.
Police executed a search warrant at a home north of Brisbane in May and seized electronic devices. Subsequent forensic examination located files containing violent extremist material and child abuse material.
The 18-year-old was charged with 30 offenses, including 14 counts of using a carriage service to transmit violent extremist material, each count of which carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment.
He made an initial court appearance in May and was remanded in custody. ■
