SYDNEY, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Two teenage boys have been charged with murder over the mistaken-identity shooting of a man during a southwest Sydney home invasion at the start of September.
University student Marco Tapia, aged 23, died after he was shot in the early hours of Sept. 1 by a group of unknown offenders who had broken into his family home in Sydney's outer southwest.
Police determined that Tapia was mistakenly targeted in an attack linked to organized crime and said in a statement on Thursday that two boys, aged 14 and 16, were arrested at homes in western Sydney on Wednesday.
Both boys were taken to a nearby police station and charged with murder, participating in a criminal group, possessing an unauthorized prohibited firearm and two counts each of driving a stolen vehicle.
It will be alleged in court that the boys provided a weapon and vehicles for the offenders who shot Tapia.
Police said that investigations into the attack are ongoing. ■
