HANOI, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Torrential rain and flooding have wreaked havoc in Vietnam's central region, damaging more than 1,000 hectares of rice and other crops and killing more than 1,000 livestock and poultry, the Vietnam News Agency reported Wednesday.
Meanwhile, nearly 1,000 houses had been inundated or damaged in Quang Tri, Quang Tri, Thanh Hoa provinces and Hue City, according to the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority.
Up to 1,251 livestock and poultry had died or been swept away in Quang Tri province, the report said.
Eleven national highways and provincial roads in the region had been flooded, causing traffic disruptions. ■
