TASHKENT, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- An event promoting traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) culture kicked off on Tuesday in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.

The event aims to deepen mutual learning in traditional medicine under the Belt and Road Initiative, promote the preservation and innovation of TCM, and boost health and well-being across Central Asia.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Yang Xianren, first secretary at the Chinese Embassy in Uzbekistan, said medical and health cooperation, including exchanges in traditional medicine, forms a vital component of practical cooperation between the two nations.

China stands ready to work with Uzbekistan to carry forward the essence of traditional medicine, deepen pharmaceutical cooperation, and share clinical expertise, thereby enriching the China-Uzbekistan all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership for a new era, he said.

Sukhrat Boymuradov, rector of Tashkent State Medical University, noted that the event will further deepen medical exchanges between Uzbekistan and China and advance coordinated development in international education, scientific research and clinical practice of TCM.

The event was co-hosted by Xinjiang Medical University and Tashkent State Medical University, and organized by the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University, the Chinese-Uzbek Center for Traditional Medicine and other institutions.
