COLOMBO, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka will provide up to 1 million Sri Lankan rupees (about 3,043 U.S. dollars) per beneficiary under a new pilot project to improve sanitation facilities for people with disabilities, Susil Ranasinghe, the country's minister of housing, construction and water supply, said on Monday.
Ranasinghe said the pilot project would begin next week and initially cover the Western Province.
The government plans to expand the program nationwide from next year, he said.
The initiative is aimed at improving access to suitable sanitation facilities for people with special needs and supporting households that require modifications or new facilities to meet accessibility needs. ■
