SINGAPORE, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) is forecast to remain in the high-moderate to mid-unhealthy range, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said on Monday.
In its latest advisory, the NEA said brief showers fell over parts of Singapore on Monday. As at 6 p.m. local time, one-hour PM2.5 concentration readings ranged from 56 to 115 micrograms per cubic meter, placing them in Band 2, the "Elevated" band. The 24-hour PSI stood at 88 to 117, ranging from the moderate to unhealthy range.
Due to a shift in the prevailing winds to blow from east-southeast, moderate to dense smoke plumes from fires in Kalimantan drifted towards Singapore. Some smoke haze was also observed to drift from southern Sumatra, the agency said.
It said dry conditions are expected to persist over Singapore and the surrounding region in the coming days. ■
