DHAKA, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Bangladeshi government has rolled out a three-month campaign aimed at preventing dengue amid the peak season for the mosquito-borne disease.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated the nationwide campaign in Dhaka on Saturday.

The campaign, carrying the slogans "Keep your own surroundings clean, let us all stay healthy" and "Remove stagnant water every day," also aims to strengthen coordination among government, private-sector and social initiatives.

The campaign is running from Sept. 12 to Dec. 12, with activities coordinated at city, division, district and sub-district levels.

Tens of thousands of volunteers will take part in the nationwide awareness and cleanliness campaign.

The campaign follows rising dengue prevalence in Dhaka and other regions as dengue fever has claimed 143 lives and infected 50,276 people across Bangladesh so far this year.
