NEW DELHI, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- More than 4.14 million people have been affected by floods in the eastern Indian state of Bihar, officials said Thursday.
The floods have hit the state's 14 districts, with several rivers flowing above the danger mark at multiple places.
Authorities attribute the flooding to incessant rains over the last five days in different parts of the state.
Officials told local media they have set up hundreds of community kitchens and over a dozen relief camps to accommodate flood-affected people. Medical care is also provided at these makeshift camps.
Disaster response personnel are operating hundreds of boats to evacuate and transport people trapped in floodwaters.
India's state-run broadcaster All India Radio said on Thursday that the flood situation has improved slightly in the state as water levels in several rivers have receded.
The broadcaster said hundreds of houses have been damaged, while nearly 700 rural roads remain under water, affecting road connectivity. ■
