KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's next phase of digital development must move beyond connectivity deployment towards creating tangible value through better public services, stronger businesses and greater opportunities for Malaysians, the country's Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said at a recent event.
Calling on global technology partners to "not only sell into Malaysia, but build with Malaysia," Fahmi highlighted, during the ZTE Global Summit & User Congress 2026 held recently, the importance of developing local talent, strengthening national capabilities and fostering innovation that can serve the wider ASEAN market.
Malaysian Minister of Digital Gobind Singh Deo said the country's next phase of digital competitiveness hinges on translating artificial intelligence (AI) into tangible economic and societal value by boosting productivity, improving public services and creating higher-value opportunities for the people.
"To become an AI Nation by 2030, we must look beyond infrastructure to cultivate local talent, foster trusted governance and empower homegrown innovators to scale global solutions," he added.
The ZTE Global Summit & User Congress 2026 brought over 500 participants, including government officials, ICT industry representatives, executives, enterprises and ecosystem partners, for discussions on future network evolution, the integration of AI and digital innovation, and regional digital economic growth. ■
