SINGAPORE, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Singapore telecommunications group Singtel and Thailand's energy company Gulf Development said on Thursday they will jointly develop submarine cable infrastructure linking Thailand and Singapore, as demand for data centers, cloud computing and artificial intelligence services grows across the region.

The companies will invest in subsea cable assets under a partnership announced on Thursday, Singtel said in a statement.

Their first project will be the Vietnam-Thailand-Singapore Cable System, which will provide a new subsea link between Thailand and Singapore. The system is expected to be operational by 2030.

The companies said they may also invest in terrestrial cable systems and other subsea cable projects in the future.
