KABUL, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have mobilized nearly 2 billion U.S. dollars in investment over the past five years across the economic, manufacturing, services and infrastructure sectors in the western province of Herat, the provincial government office announced on Thursday.

These capital inflows have accelerated the creation of new enterprises, the execution of large-scale development projects and the generation of employment opportunities throughout the region, the office said.

Flagship initiatives include the Herat cement project, solar and wind power generation schemes, the comprehensive urban master plan for Herat City, and the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India natural gas pipeline.

The Afghan government has actively encouraged both domestic and international investors to channel capital into the conflict-scarred nation while seeking to deepen trade and economic partnerships with neighboring and regional countries.
