SINGAPORE, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Annual data center investment in Singapore is seen rising to 19.2 billion U.S. dollars by 2050 from about 7 billion dollars in 2026, PwC's central forecast showed on Wednesday.
Cumulative investment is projected at about 330 billion dollars over 2026-2050, representing annual growth of around 4.3 percent. The estimate covers both data center construction and information and communications technology (ICT) equipment.
In 2026, ICT equipment investment is expected to account for about 5 billion dollars, while construction investment is estimated at 2 billion dollars. By 2050, annual ICT investment is forecast to reach 16.6 billion dollars, compared with about 2.5 billion dollars for construction.
PwC said Singapore faces both an opportunity and a constraint as demand for data centers continues to grow, with scarce land and power, requiring investment to be directed towards workloads that generate the greatest strategic and economic value.
Across Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, PwC forecasts cumulative data center investment of about 1.29 trillion dollars from 2026 to 2050.
Annual investment across the six markets is projected to increase to 69.7 billion dollars by 2050 from roughly 36 billion dollars in 2026, with Singapore accounting for about one-quarter of the regional total. ■
