PHNOM PENH, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia approved 5.45 billion U.S. dollars in fixed-asset investment projects during the first eight months of 2026, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) said Wednesday.
Between January and August, the CDC approved 346 investment projects, a surge that is expected to create approximately 200,000 jobs.
"During the first eight months of 2026, Cambodia continued to attract high-quality projects, boosted by capital growth in the infrastructure and tourism sectors, while the industrial sector remained the leading driver of investment," the CDC said. "This trend demonstrates that Cambodia's investment climate remains positive and resilient, reflecting strong investor confidence in the government's efforts to promote business and investment."
Penn Sovicheat, a secretary of state and spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce, attributed this influx of foreign direct investment to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement alongside Cambodia's bilateral free trade agreements with China, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.
He noted that these new investments will introduce fresh capital, advanced technologies, and employment opportunities for the local population. ■
