KABUL, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's Ministry of Public Health has signed an agreement with Medical Management and Research Courses for Afghanistan (MMRCA) to deliver nutrition services in northern Sari Pul province, the ministry announced on Wednesday.
The partnership seeks to enhance the quality of healthcare delivery, broaden access to essential services and mitigate pressing health challenges confronting residents of the province, the ministry said in a statement.
Under the terms of the agreement, 28,496 individuals will receive care through a network of 40 health facilities, while the initiative is expected to generate 11 new positions within the health sector, it added.
The move comes amid acute nutritional needs across the country. In July, a UNICEF report raised the alarm that 3.7 million children under the age of 5 in Afghanistan are at heightened risk of malnutrition. ■
