KABUL, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Personnel of counter-narcotics police during separate operations against illicit drugs and drug traffickers have recovered more than 44 kg of opium-type illegal drugs and took into custody four traffickers on Tuesday, officials confirmed Wednesday.
In the first achievement, police, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a car on a road in Farahrud district of western Afghanistan's Farah province and, after seizing 34.4 kg of opium, arrested two traffickers, a statement from the provincial police office said.
Similarly, police launched an intelligence-based operation in Shahri Buzurg district of the northern Badakhshan province on the same day and seized 10 kg of opium, the provincial police office confirmed in a statement.
Police also took two people into custody for investigation to unearth the drug smuggling ring, the statement asserted.
All four suspected drug traffickers would be handed over to the judiciary after completion of preliminary interrogation, according to the statements. ■
