KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia is working to boost the productivity of the agricultural commodity sector, particularly to increase the income of smallholders, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Tuesday.
The government will continue to strengthen the sector through higher productivity, technology use, and developing a more resilient value chain, Anwar said in a speech to the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities.
He said the priority is poverty eradication, followed by assisting small businesses and traders.
He also assured smallholders of continued support for their activities through cash incentives and infrastructure.
He added that as of September 2026, some 270,000 smallholders, including small palm oil, rubber, cocoa and pepper farmers, received monthly cash assistance. ■
