PHNOM PENH, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's Ministry of Health on Monday officially launched a comprehensive six-year eye health governance project spanning from 2026 to 2031.
Speaking at the launch event in Phnom Penh, Health Minister Chheang Ra said that eye health is a foundational pillar of the broader healthcare system and remains essential to achieving the nation's Universal Health Coverage (UHC) goals.
The minister said the project represents a collective mission to ensure all citizens, especially those living in vulnerable, rural, and remote areas, gain access to quality, equitable, inclusive, and affordable eye care.
"Vision is an indispensable tool for acquiring knowledge and understanding," he said. "By helping children with vision impairment, we secure their futures and empower the individuals who will one day shape our nation."
He urged unified action to ensure "no one is left behind" as Cambodia works to build a robust, sustainable, and equitable eye health system. ■
