DHAKA, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Millions of Bangladeshis living and working abroad remitted home nearly 6 billion U.S. dollars in the July-August period, a senior official said on Sunday.
Quoting official data, Arief Hossain Khan, spokesperson and executive director of the Bangladesh Bank (BB), told Xinhua that remittances, one of the key sources of foreign exchange for the South Asian nation, increased 22.5 percent year on year to 2.967 billion dollars in August.
Bangladeshis remitted home 2.859 billion dollars in July, he added.
Bangladesh remittances hit an all-time high of over 35 billion dollars in the last fiscal year 2025-26 (July 2025-June 2026), according to the BB.
Remittances to Bangladesh mainly came from Middle Eastern countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. ■
