KATHMANDU, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from the devastating mudslide in Nepal rose to 1,287, with 5,083 people still missing as of 12:30 p.m. local time on Friday, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
A preliminary assessment showed that 7,570 private houses and 48 government structures had been damaged. 18 schools were affected, including 11 completely destroyed and seven partially damaged, while seven health institutions were also hit.
In addition, 55 km of roads were completely damaged, along with 37 motorable bridges rendered unusable.
Two men trapped inside the tunnel of the Trishuli 3A hydropower project, which was badly affected by last week's deadly mudslide, were rescued alive on Friday, the Nepali Army said.
"After 10 days of darkness, life has seen the light again. Two people have been rescued alive from inside the hydropower project tunnel at Trishuli-3A," the Nepali Army said in a social media post. "The rescue operation is underway." ■
