SINGAPORE, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Singapore has committed 112 million Singapore dollars (88.28 million U.S. dollars) over the next five years in research and innovation for the built environment, the Building and Construction Authority said on Wednesday.

The funding, under Singapore's Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2030 plan, is part of a package of measures announced by Minister for National Development Chee Hong Tat to transform the sector, the authority said in a statement.

The funding will focus on safer and more productive demolition, improving building lifespan modeling and maintenance, reducing embodied carbon and improving energy efficiency toward net-zero emissions by 2050, and translating research and innovation outcomes into industry adoption.
