Vietnam receives 6.5 mln visitors during 5-day holiday

HANOI, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam welcomed an estimated 6.5 million tourist arrivals during the five-day National Day holiday from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2, up 18 percent year on year, Vietnam News Agency reported Thursday, citing the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism.

Southern hub Ho Chi Minh City led in visitor numbers, welcoming an estimated 1.71 million arrivals during the period, up 17.8 percent year on year.

The city's total tourism revenue reached about 4.9 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 191.3 million U.S. dollars), up 18.36 percent, the report said.

Ten localities generated tourism revenue exceeding 1 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 39 million U.S. dollars).

Capital Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and central Da Nang city topped the list with each recording tourism revenue of over 3 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 117 million U.S. dollars), local daily VnExpress reported.
