MELBOURNE, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Six teenagers were arrested and charged on Wednesday after a man was seriously injured in an eastern Melbourne stabbing in August.
A police statement said that officers were deployed to reports of a man calling for help in the suburb of Box Hill, about 14 km east of central Melbourne, in the early hours of August 22.
The 53-year-old man was found with injuries consistent with a stab wound and was taken to the hospital in a serious condition, where he remains.
Detectives launched an investigation and, on Wednesday morning, arrested five teenage boys and one teenage girl.
All six were interviewed by police and have each been charged with seven offenses, including intentionally causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence, recklessly causing serious injury and assault with a weapon.
Under local laws in the state of Victoria, children aged 14 and above who are charged with serious violent crimes, including intentionally causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence, can be tried in an adult court and face adult prison sentences. ■
