ISLAMABAD, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- At least 15 militants were killed by Pakistani security forces while attempting to infiltrate the country, the military said Thursday.
The movement of a group of militants was detected during the night of Aug. 31 to Sept. 1 opposite North Waziristan district in the country's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistani military, said in a statement.
Security forces engaged the infiltrators in a 36-hour operation, killing 15 militants, the statement said.
A significant quantity of weapons and ammunition was also recovered during a follow-up sanitization operation, it added.
Security forces are conducting a sanitization operation in the area to eliminate any remaining militants, the ISPR said. ■
