HANOI, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam welcomed 15.9 million international visitors in the first eight months of 2026, up 14.4 percent year on year and the highest level recorded for the period in recent years, according to a report released Thursday by the National Statistics Office.
Of the total, 13.2 million visitors arrived by air, accounting for 83.1 percent of international arrivals and up 11.6 percent from the same period last year.
Arrivals by road reached 2.5 million, accounting for 15.5 percent of the total and rising 32 percent year on year, while arrivals by sea totaled 220,600, up 17.5 percent.
Asia remained the largest source market, contributing over 11.8 million arrivals during the period, followed by Europe with more than 2.6 million visitors, according to the report.
Vietnam targets 25 million international arrivals in 2026, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. ■
