MALE, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Maldivian government is carrying out 113 housing projects nationwide as part of efforts to address persistent housing shortages, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has said.
According to the ministry, the projects include 21 in the Male region, the Maldives' state media PSM News reported Wednesday.
President Mohamed Muizzu has identified housing as a key development priority and pledged to provide secure housing to more people than previous administrations.
Housing remains one of the Maldives' major social challenges as population growth and rising demand, particularly in urban areas, continue to put pressure on available accommodation, the ministry said. ■
