TOKYO, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Three people have been confirmed dead after a fishing boat failed to return in Miyazaki Prefecture, southwestern Japan, local media reported on Thursday.
According to public broadcaster NHK, shortly before 8 a.m. local time on Thursday, a fisheries cooperative in Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture, reported that a fishing boat that had gone out to sea had failed to return.
When colleagues went out by boat to search for the vessel, they found three people, including the captain, in the sea. The three were rescued, but all were later confirmed dead.
The coast guard is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. ■
