TOKYO, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index sinking more than 2 percent, tracking overnight losses on Wall Street as a new wave of U.S. military strikes against Iran drove crude oil prices higher, compounding pressure from climbing U.S. bond yields.

In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average tumbled 1,414.08 points, or 2.14 percent, from Tuesday to 64,801.26.

The broader Topix index, meanwhile, shed 67.95 points, or 1.62 percent, to 4,113.91.

On the top-tier Prime Market, electric appliance, nonferrous metal, and transportation equipment issues were notable decliners.
