KABUL, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were killed and one other injured when torrential rains triggered flash floods in eastern Afghanistan's mountainous Nuristan province late Monday, a local official reported on Tuesday.
The floods swept through parts of Wanat district, killing three people and causing significant damage to local infrastructure and agricultural land, provincial government spokesman Faridon Samim told Xinhua.
The official emphasized that the casualty figures remain preliminary, as assessment teams continue to conduct surveys and evaluate the full extent of the damage in the affected areas.
Since late March, persistent heavy rainfall, successive flash floods, and severe storms have claimed more than 351 lives across Afghanistan, including women and children, and left nearly 436 others injured, according to official statistics. ■
